NCB in english

Competencies in Project Management constitutes the frame of reference for evaluating project management competence. NCB stands for National Competence Baseline for Scandinavia. It specifies the requirements on project management competence instead of being a manual for managing projects. You can therefore gain your project management skills from different sources, as long as you fulfil the competence requirements.

Competences in Project Management can be used as a frame of reference for:

  • Certification of Project Managers
  • Development of the Project Manager
  • Development of project management within the organisation

The book describes competence areas, which altogether forms a typical profile on a Project Manager. The assessment of a person’s competence in project management is made on behaviour, method and experience. By assessing each method competence element by grading both theoretical and practical knowledge it is possible to assess all project roles, from project member to Project Office Managers.
Competencies in Project Management is the English equivalent to the Swedish Kompetens i Projektledning, KiP, which are based on IPMA’s Competence Baseline, ICB.

The English version is slightly different to the Swedish version. However, the differences have no impact on the certifications. Both books are built on competence elements for method and behaviour and includes tables for evaluating these areas.

Competencies in Project Management was developed for certification purposes, but may as well be used as a tool for organisations that wish to develop project management career paths, development plans for Project Managers and assess the organisations project maturity.

When the book is used for certification, the Candidates will learn how to use the book during the introduction seminar. If you buy the book for other purposes we recommend that you contact us for a half-day introduction seminar or participate in one of the regular introduction seminars advertised on this website.
